Jonsered Chainsaw Review
Jonsered is a brand that does not necessarily get the recognition it deserves as it is relatively unknown compared to the likes of Stihl and Husqvarna. In our opinion, the manufacturer is responsible for introducing the first ever single manned chainsaw. This acted as the blueprint for all future best chainsaws, and even to this very day, chainsaws are modelled on Jonsered’s original prototype.
How Good are Jonsered Chainsaws?
Table of Contents
We have found Jonsered chainsaws to always be both powerful and reliable. However, there will always be those people who say otherwise due to their own negative personal experiences with their chainsaws. The number of complaints and returns Jonsered receive is actually very little. This alone speaks absolute volumes in regards to the quality of their chainsaws.
Why buy a Jonsered Chainsaw?
One of the main selling points with this brand is that their chainsaws are actually made by fellow Swedish power tool manufacturer Husqvarna. For those not in the know, Husqvarna are a, if not the, leading chainsaw maker in the world. Therefore, a high level of quality is pretty much guaranteed with their chainsaws.
So we have established they have a strong reputation and produce quality power tools, but how do they measure up in terms of being good value for money? After all, for many this is the main thing that will determine whether or not to buy a Jonsered chainsaw.
On the whole Jonsered chainsaws are generally cheaper than Husqvarna ones, despite them both using many of the same parts, components, and manufacturing processes. We will now take a look at some of Jonsered’s top chainsaw models that are currently available and detail their specifications along with some pros and cons of each.
Jonsered 2240 Chainsaw Review
This particular model causes some debate in the chainsaw world with a lot of people finding it difficult to get started. However, this simply comes from them not reading the chainsaw’s instruction manual correctly, or at all. It comes with a small but reasonably powerful gas motor that is 40 cc. It is the ideal chainsaw for occasional use around the garden. Although it can cut up all the firewood you would ever need, it does not have the power required to cut through thick tree trunks.
A handy feature of the 2240 is the snap locked cylinder covers that are quick release. Because of this the spark plugs and air filter can both be easily accessed for when they need replacing or for maintenance reasons. However, the air filter on the 2240 has been specially designed so that it does not get clogged up with dust and debris as quickly as others do so the need for maintenance is kept to a minimum.
Specifications
- 2.5 horse power
- A 40 cc motor
- A cylinder displacement of 2.5 cubic inch
- An 18 inch bar length
- Tool free chain tensioning
- A total weight of 9.5 pounds
Pros
- Air filter keeps itself clean
- Makes light work of branched and small logs
Cons
- Can be difficult to start
Jonsered 2245 Chainsaw Review
This particular model comes highly recommended by experienced professional arborists. As well as being suitable for professionals, it is also suitable for non-professionals looking for a bit of extra power when cutting up fire wood. It comes armed with a powerful gas motor that is 45 cc. It can handle all the same things as the 2240, but just does them with greater ease, especially on those more stubborn pieces of wood. Even with all the power it possesses the 2245 runs incredibly smooth.
The chainsaw very rarely, if ever, stalls and has a strong idle that rarely seems to splutter.

This is a highly robust chainsaw that is able to do lots of serious work and still keeps on running over the years. Originally manufactured in the 1990’s it still stands up against some of today’s modern chainsaws.
The 2036 is powered by a 36 cc engine with a horse power of 2.2. The power tool weighs just slightly less than 10 pounds and comes equipped with an anti vibration handlebar system which helps to reduce fatigue.
