Dremel Fortiflex Review
Table could not be displayed.
One thing that will become apparent from this review is that the Fortiflex is a completely different tool to any of Dremel’s other standard rotatory power tools that are currently available on the market. It has a flexible shaft that is connected to the motor. It also comes with a foot pedal which allows the user to control the speed and a hand piece.
For this particular review we will focus solely on the 9100 model as this is one of, if not Dremel’s most popular model.
What is the Dremel Fortiflex 9100?
Table of Contents
It is a flexible shaft power tool manufactured by American power tool brand Dremel. It comes equipped with a motor that can be hung up, a flexible shaft, a hand piece that is interchangeable and a foot pedal that allows you to control the variable speed of the power tool.
What can the Dremel Fortiflex 9100 be used for?
The 9100 has been specially designed for tasks such as shaping, power carving, and grinding applications. However, you can purchase a number of accessories and attachments that mean the power tool can perform tasks such as sanding, grinding, cutting, polishing, routing, engraving, carving, and many more.
Other power tools that are also good for working with wood are Table Saws.
Who is the Dremel Fortiflex 9100 designed for?
It is ideal for those individuals that require manoeuvrability from a rotary power tool. Thanks to its flexible shaft the 9100 offers this. The 9100 is also a very versatile power tool as it has an interchangeable hand piece. This means it is perfect for those needing more than one option and wanting to perform highly detailed tasks, such as engraving and carving.
With some of the attachments available, the 9100 also lends itself to jewellery makers who need to grind, polish, and clean. Those in need of a high torque power tool, especially at lower speeds, or those wanting an alternative to the Foredom flex shaft, should definitely opt for the Dremel.

Who is the Dremel Fortiflex 9100 not designed for?
We would not recommend this power tool for those individuals who do not want one without a flexible shaft or those wanting it cordless. Those looking for a more heavy duty rotary tool should also look elsewhere and consider another model.
Dremel Fortiflex 9100 Function and Features
Whereas the standard Dremel rotary tools come with a flexible shaft only being available as an attachment that has to be bought separately.
Although the 9100’s highest speed setting is lower than that of the standard rotary tools, it does have a much greater horsepower and greater torque. This is thanks to a 2.5 amp and 1.5 horsepower motor. Powered by this, the rotary tool is capable of generating an RPM of up to 23,000.
The power tool is compatible with all of Dremel’s attachments and accessories that makes it super versatile. Where the 9100 excels is as a power tool for wood carving types of jobs that require high precision and lots of power. It is also good at working soft metals and plastics, doing grinding, engraving, and detailing types of jobs.
This particular model comes with Dremel’s 2 year warranty, meaning any defects that become apparent during this time period are fixed by Dremel free of charge.

What other rotary tools are out there
As well as the 9100, Dremel also produce the 4000 and 4000-6 models which are both good rotary power tools in their own right. Other brands such as Proxxon, Banggood, Bosch, Clarke, Ryobi, and Foredom also produce similar power tools that are definitely worth having a look at in some more detail.
One particular model we would recommend is the Foredom 999 FD19. It is capable of generating up to 38,000 RPM that makes it ideal for drilling, burring, engraving, and polishing. Its high speed means that it only needs the lightest of touches when doing each of these tasks. The control box of this rotary power tool has an off / on switch, along with a switch to reverse the rotation.
The speed of the Foredom is also controlled by a foot pedal and like the Dremmel, it too comes with a full 2 year warranty so there is no need to worry about it ever breaking.

Conclusion
Having looked into all the different aspects of this rotary tool by Dremel, including some of the negative aspects and reviews, we would still definitely recommend the Fortiflex 9100. This is because it is highly versatile and can be used for a variety of different applications.
Our favorite feature of this particular power tool, and the main thing that differentiates it from other similar products currently available on the market, is the 9100’s flexible shaft that has been designed especially for completing tasks such as power carving, grinding, and shaping.
